Chinan Forest Recreation Area is located at Chinan Village in Shoufung Town which is on the mountain slope near the Carp Lake, southwest of Hualien Town.
The Chinan Forest Recreation Area is set in a totally natural environment. At the center of this recreation area is the Lin-ya Museum where slide shows, models, maps etc depicting the history in the development of the forestland are available to the public. It also displays traditional and contemporary logging tools, log transportation train and steam chainsaws etc.
The most popular place in this area is the log yard and the steam train stop where the obsolete log transportation train take tourists for a ride into the wilderness for a taste of how the development of this area began. Other than that, there are BBQ sites as well as campsites near the winding and shady rivers where the water is rich with fish and prawns.
Behind the museum is the Shunfunshan (Mt Pine Air) which affords splendid panoramic view of Carp Lake environment.

By Own Car :
From Hualien travelling south bound, go past Chi-an, Nanhua, Wenlan and then left turn to No. 9 Provincial Route until Chinan. Then follow the signs and make a right turn to the destination.

From Hualien, take the Hualien Express Bus bound for Tungmen, Wenlan, Shoufung, Chinan and alight at Carp Lake Stop. |
