Next to the Tayal Facial Tattoo Studio is the Duruwan Studio, managed by Ms Guei-fang Tien. Ms Tien is a retired policewoman and started the wood-carving tradition after 1998.
Ms Tien's creative themes are all about Yatal Tribe's culture, weaving, and lifestyle. In terms of utensils, there are also wooden bowls, musical instruments, cooking equipment etc. Ms Tien's talent, although discovered at a later time in life, is proven ingenious as she came second in a national competition in 1998 with Tattooed Man, and then was awarded Pingdong Cultural Center's Creativity Award with Yatal Warrior in 1999.
Ms Tien now established an association where she teaches anyone who wishes to learn traditional wood-carving.
Apart from this passion of hers, Ms Tien also looks after a yatal-styled inn of traditional bamboo as well as modern architectural design. Why not drop by and witness the wood-carving misteress in person?
