Hualien Recreation Wharf
Hualien Recreation Wharf is situated in Norther Hualien and is the first dock in Taiwan to be designed for amusement purposes. Hualien County takes tourism as its main focus, and in July 1997 the first whale-viewing ferry was set offshore at Shiti Wharf. To date there are 4 ferries at Hualien Wharf and 3 at Shiti available for public use.

In 1999, the Ministry of Agriculture of Hualien County Government exploited the Hualien Recreation Wharf as a specific spot for the ferries, based on the concept of whale-protection. Every April to June is the prime time of whale-viewing.

Within the wharf the Ministry also facilitates : a marine life display zone, a waiting room, a pre-ride guide, a parking lot, a whale-emergency station, an observatory level, a fishing goods store, an aboriginal handicraft shop, an alfresco coffee shop etc.

Visitors can even perchase raw fish at the harbour, and request for immediate cooking nearby restaurants.
