Kiwit Village is situated next to the Siouguwang River and is another dwelling for the Amei Tribes. Legend says that Amei ancestors, Ducy and Lalakan, drifted to east coast of Taiwan all the way from the southern seas by means of a mere canoe. Eventually they made this place their home and called for colonization.
Kiwit in Amei tongue stands for Climbing Fern. Climbing ferns are of a firm and strong quality and are used to bind things together ; therefore the naming of this village as 'kiwit' is to represent the strong-willed and stern people of Amei.
Kiwit Village has carried down its traditions from generation to generation, with festivals such as Komolis and Cipowo are still being held the conventional way. Music and dance take pride of place in terms of Amei cultures, especially Kokag, a percussion instrument made of bamboo, and a group routine called Ciopihay performed by the adolescent male party.
Kiwit Village is secluded within the greenery of nature, with the crystal water flowing along side of it. Kiwit is also famous for its canoing environment as well as its water buffalos. Currently Kiwit Village offers public accommodation for tourists who are interested in the local culture and civilization. For more details you may contact the Rueisuei Public Office.
