The Rueisuei Lotus Temple is dedicated to the Buddhist god Sakyamuni. Legend tells that in 1877 an elderly left a pair of bamboo baskets at the exact spot but never returned to fetch them. The villagers eventually disclosed the interior and discovered two bronze statues that contained instructions as to build a temple right here and another in Jhuguang ; and this is how the Lotus Temple came about.
