Yuchuan Shrine is situated on the western piedmont of Yuli Township, surrounded by a forest of bamboos and clear skies, the entire area is as still as a picture yet as moving as a piece of music.
The shrine was built in 1930, named after the water well in the backyard ('Yuchuan' simply means 'fountain of jade'). According to legend, the water at Yuchuan Shrine could heal all sorts of diseases with jus one sip, and hence many residents as well as visitors come here after litting joss sticks or bush-walking, just to get a taste of the fresh water and wash away the fatigue.
Yuchuan Shrine is mainly built for the worship of Sakyamuni and Avalokiteshvara, and with connection to their birthdays in February and April (Lunar Calendar) respectively, as well as other festive seasons, the shrine holds many celebrative events and the crowd just gets bigger every year.
During the 1950s there was a massive earthquake which demolished parts of the shrine. After a few reconstructions the Yuchuan Shrine became what we now see today.
