Foyenshan (Mt Foyen)
At a height of 602 meters, this volcanic mountain is situated at the boundary between Sanyi Village and Kuanni Town, facing Ta-an River on the south. Due to its loose soil foundation, erosion has caused the disappearance of the steep ridge. From far, under bright sunlight, the peak seems like burning fire. Thus, it is named Foyen, meaning fire source.
Foyenshan’s geological make-up composed of a rock surface cushioned by sandy rock level at the bottom. Its color changes among red, orange and yellow. Later, due to earth movement, folds were created. Under centuries of erosion, these folds became several highland valleys among five main streams. They are dry and filled with loose rocks during dry season. However, when the torrential rain comes, the cascading water would carry along the rocks down streams causing massive landslide along the Chungmio No 6 Highway.

The inner crust of this mountain consists of fossils especially the shell type. This area yields numerous varieties of plants and vegetation. Currently, 374 species have been discovered. It is also an ideal shelter for numerous animals.

With its rich natural resources and its scenic beauty, the Forestry Department has classified this area as protected area.
