Originally named Taipei New (Shin) Park, 228 Peace Memorial Park offers luscious greenery, sheds and pagodas for outings and relaxation purposes. Musical performances free of admission are held frequently on the outdoor stage.
There are also remains of historical artifacts left from the Japanese Colonial Period such as the radio broadcast tower, a bronze buffalo, two old train heads (one bought from Germany and the other given by the Japanese), and the virtuous memorial arch (paifang) dedicated to Wang Sher-chen who took on a major role in the 228 (February 28th) event.
The county exhibition hall within the site has occasional exhibits of paintings, photography, and other cultural items. It is indeed a recreational and educational privilege to visit 228 Peace Memorial Park.
