Along the Huatung Coastal Road, there is a dangerous section by the broken ridges between Shinshih and Zhichi. Before the main road was constructed, it was only a small path, which linked the coastal villagers with the outside world. Legends said that a native woman carrying a child at her back was very panicked when she was crossing the narrow path that she did not realized that she had dropped the child. As such, the villagers named this broken ridge Chinpujrtze meaning Mother doesn't know son to symbolize the danger of this crossing.
The broken ridge here although dangerous, its beachfront is a wonderous view with soft sandy beaches stretching for more than 3 km long. The Hualien County government has set up a lido, stalls, sheds and parking lots to attract visitors to this enchanting beachfront.

By Own Car :
From Hualien town, past Hualien Bridge and then left turn to No. 11 Provincial Route (Coastal Road),
passing Suilien and you will reach Zhichi. The distance is about 43.7 km. You can also go from Taitung No. 11 Provincial Route northward for about 136 km to get there.
Public Commute:
From Hualien City take the Hulien Coach that travels towards Jinpu and alight at Zhihchih Station. The coaches come at every hour from 05:30am - 05:30pm. |
