Santimen is a small Peiwan aboriginal town belonging to the Santimen Village, Pingtung County. It is nicked named Water gate (Shuimen) or Three Pigs Gate (Sanchoomen). It consists of three villages connected together; namely Shuimen Village, Santi Village and Peiya Village.
Shuimen Village is mainly plains fringed by magnificent mountains and a rushing river. It is a center of barter trades for the aborigines belonging to the Peiwan tribe. There are all sorts of bustling trading stalls inside the village. On the way from Shuimen Village crossing the Santimen Bridge to Santi Village, you can visit a majestic, huge temple called Sanchaopo Temple. Santi Village consists mainly of flat lands, peaceful and serene surrounding with lush greenery. At the edge of the village, you can visit a private Aboriginal Cultural Exhibition Hall and at the park, take a relaxing dip in the white-water river or camp out.
On the right hill slope of Shuimen Village is Peiya Village which is home of the Yama Tribe's Cultural Center. A 4km walk from behind the village due east up the picturesque mountains will lead you to the Taiwan Aboriginal Cultural Park situated on the Fookoo riverside for a tour to get to know the natives cultural heritage.
Currently, Sentimen still preserves much of the traditions and customs. Visitors will not only enjoy the magnificent country sight but they can also learn about the lifestyle of the Peiwan Tribe. Exhibits such as traditional stone house, stone made furniture and wood and stone sculptures and artifacts are available. If you come in during their festive season such as the harvest festival in August, wedding or New Year, you will be enchanted with their nightlong tribal dances and songs and be totally submerged in Sentimen's local culture.

From the Kaohsiung Exchange exit to no.1 Provincial Route , east bound to Pintung City.
Continue to no.24 district for another 20 Km and you will reach Suimen Village.
From the village going straight, you will reach Santimen. It is 37 Km from the Highway Exchange to Santimen. |
