Point : Emperor Yuanpin (Koxinga) Shrine
Count:27146
The Emperor Yuanpin’s shrine, more commonly known as Koxinga Temple or Kaishan Temple, is located at Kaisun Road in Tainan. It is devoted to the Ming Dynasty patriot Koxinga and his followers. The compound is spacious with manicured patio. It was then the only building in Taiwan that was patterned after Foochew Province’s architectural style. It was however, replaced with a northern palace-style building after 1945.
The shrine is one of the most prized historical sites in Taiwan. Built in 1885, the shrine consists of four main sections; the front wall, main hall devoted to Koxinga, the back chamber devoted to Emperor Linchin and the Empress, and lastly, the hallways on the east and west of the main building. The thick greenish glass petition coupled with red low-lying walls and the swaying willows by the garden right outside the shrine truly bring a feeling of peace and harmony. The Tainan Folk Exhibition hall is on the right flange of the shrine where you can find a rich variety of ancient remains such as handicraft, artifacts, bio life samples, pallets and souvenir. On the right side at the front of the shrine, there are nine cannons; two made of bronze and seven of iron. Together with the nearby Fahwa Temple and Madam Linsui’s Temple, these attractions really make a pleasant and educational trip down history lane.
