Hualien Guangfu Sugar Mill was set up in 1920 when Guangfu County was called Mataian. It means vata'an in Amis language. This place was an alluvion before and lots of vata'ans grew here. The aborigines ate vata'an as their main food. So they named the county Vata'an. The full name of the Mill is Yanshuei Harbor Sugar Corporation Huanlien Harbor Sugar Factory Dahe Mill.
On October 1st 1937, the names of barrios were changed. This place was renamed Shang Dahe (Yamato) by adding Shang to Dahe. After the Taiwanese Retrocession, the original name Tan'an was once again adopted. On March 1st 1947, it was set up as a township named Guangfu, and the mill was named Taiwan Sugar Industry Ltd., Co. Hualien Sugar Mill.
Hualien Guangfu Sugar Mill is located in Guangfu Township of Hualien County. Guangfu is conveniently located in the centre of the whole county. The Sugar Mill is one of the sight worthy scenic spots in East Rift Valley. In addition to its icy items, visitors' center and recreation center (including Karaoke, fitness room, feet massage, billiard room and so on) could be found in the mill. Also a restaurant, coffee shop, orchid shop, supermarket, dodgem amusement area, children amusement park, bicycle rental, sugar history museum, various crafts , souvenir shops, and tourist drivers lounge are available here. Together with all of these, we look forward to your grand visit. All these services accept Native Tourist Card.

Guangfu Sugar Mill was called Yilian(ripple) Park also, which was an attaching shopping ground built after the Retrocession . Guangfu is at the meeting point of East Rift Valley Highway and Guangfeng Highway. Located in this important traffic site, Yilian Park plays its recreational role perfectly.
The branches of Taiwan Sugar Industry Company is distributed all across Taiwan. Under the specialized and pluralistic management concept, each branch can make good use of cane sugar resources. Dairy, candy, meat, frozen products, ice items and so on are appendix products. Among them, the ice items are most famous and favorable.

Most workers of Sugar Mill were not natives before, so a worker's catering restaurant was established.
