Making domestic and foreign visitors gasp in admiration, Tunnel of Nine Turns is a marvelous sight along Central Cross-land Highway. The Tunnel of Nine Turns features strangely-shaped rocks, towering aiguilles, and steep cliffs. There are grotesque rocks on the upper position, deep valley and swift current below. The cliff is 1660 meters high, perilous enough to make visitors fear. And bald cliffs look even more stunning and intricate. When looking up, you shall marvel at the majestic vigour.
Blocked off by the cliffs, the sky can't be seen when standing within the valley. It is the so-called a line of sky in the tiger's mouth in Chinese proverb terms. Central Cross-land Highway was constructed by excavating the mountains; therefore, a lot of winding caves were formed. Thus the name Tunnel of Nine Turns came into existence. While driving along the highway here, you will be in a changeful world. Sometimes, it is as dark as night whereas other times blazing sunlight shines through.
The former president of Taiwan, Huangjie wrote a verse that describes this grandeur as winding as intestines and rivers, and how man can conquer the nature and exploit the marvelous sights. This sentence illuminates the perfect integration of manpower and nature here.
