Liyu Lake is the biggest inland lake in Hualien County. The Liyu Lake is located in Shoufung Village of Hualien County, about 18 kilometers away from Hualien City. Covering a 104-hectare land, the lake is surrounded by a mountain range, which creates an enchanting reflection on the surface of the lake. The water is also clear and see-through year-round. The lake is has a length of 2 kilometers in the north-south direction, and has a width of 1.5 kilometers in the east-west direction. The lake is deepest at 15 meters of depth. The lakeside is fringed by a 4 km circular road where joggers would take an hour to complete. On both sides of the road are interesting statues of a big carp, the Buddha, as well as other animals. Why not take a relaxing bike ride or a stroll around the Liyu Lake, and enjoy the beauty of nature in Hualien? There are also BBQ stands, a campsite, a parking lot and several food stalls. Some stalls even rent out boats and rafts to the public. The Liyu Lake is visited a lot every year during the Dragon Boat Festival day of the lunar calendar, namely May 5th, where the most intense dragon boat races are held. Do not miss it!
