Point : Shiukuwan River Rafting |
Count:44524 |
The 90 km long Shiukuwan River originates from the boundary of Hualien and Taitung; and is regarded as the longest river in Hualien County. The water flows from the south northward and out into the Pacific Ocean through the Luihui's coastal mountain range. As the unpolluted water flows through winding and rugged valley terrain, erosion has created some of the most picturesque and unique rock walls and broken ridges along the way.
The rafting route in Shiukuwan River stretches for some 25 km length. There are 23 rapids altogether; the 7th being the most dangerous. From Luihui Bridge to Takangkou, the distance is short but the flow is quick, and the rapids and whirlpools are winding and strong. It is dangerous yet exciting for the rafters who like to take a bit of a risk. Along both sides of the river, there are unique rock formations amid scenic forestland. Visitors can also drop by some interesting points such as the Changhung (Eternal Red) Bridge, Wanwo (earthly) Statues, Hsieh Wu-te Platform etc.
Currently, the County Government has yet to upgrade the facilities here such as the piers for the rafting activities. There is only a tourist information center with very basic facilities at the moment.
