Hsitou Forest Recreation Area has an altitude of 1,150 meters and an area of 2,500 hectares. As an experimental forest of the National Taiwan University, a variety of rare trees and plants can be found at Hsitou Forest Recreation Area including the red Chinese cypress, ginkgo trees, and cypress. Hsitou Forest Recreational Area is also a great place for bird watching with at least 7,000 species of birds that inhabit the area. With a cool climate all year round, Hsitou Forest Recreation Area is a popular place for hikers and tourists.
The Hsitou Forest Recreational Area is also famous for its Daxue Pond. There is a bamboo bridge above the pond that adds to the mystical atmosphere. In addition to the serene environment of Hsitou Forest, there is also a divine tree of about 3,000 years old, 46 meters high, and 16 meters wide. Hsitou Forest Recreational Area provides an escape from the noises of the city and is truly a tranquil resting paradise.

By car : From Wangtien Highway Interchange, exit to Chungchuan, keep to the left and connect to No 14 Provincial Route to Chaolio and then to No 3 Provincial Route to Tingpin. Turn to Provincial Route No 151, passing Luku and you will reach Hsitou and Shanlinshi. North bound : From Shihlo Highway Interchange, exit to Toulio. Turn to No 3 Provincial Route northward and follow the above route to the destinations. By bus : From Taichung, take the Lienyin Express Bus bound for Hsitou Shanlingshi. Alternatively, at Chushan, take the Yuanlin Express Bus bound for Hsitou Shanlingshih. At Hsitou, there are special bus bound for Shanlinshi. |
