Fort San Domingo
This imposing red brick monument was built by the Spanish in 1626 and is designated as a historical site of the first rank. During the 17th century, it was captured by the Dutch and renamed “Antonio Fort”. The locals commonly refer it as “Hu Vui Cheng” or “Hung Mau Cheng” which means “Fort of the Red Haired Devils”. Its compound houses three main sections, which are the main building, the British Consulate and Nancheng (South City) Gate. In the vicinity is the Oxford College, Makay’s Residence and Tanshui College, which are worth visiting.
